Anyway, once I started playing, I found myself using Talim a lot. I think it was her cute 2-player outfit that attracted me, haha.
She quickly became my prefered character, both for her fast and close fighting style and her personality, which was the complete opposite
of many of the other playable characters. She was sweet, smart, and not a merely a vessel for fanservice. Thank god.
And man, it was awesome to be able to beat up the gigantic male characters with a cute little girl. Overall, I liked her
cheery personality coupled with her ability to kick ass. Sure, her lines are a bit corny (okay, more than a bit),
but she's still my favorite character in the Soul series after all these years.
About the site
After I bought Soul Calibur II, I searched the 'net for any character shrines dealing with the series, and found a lot
(which are mostly dead now). But there were none to Talim! So in early 2004, I went to work. Whirlwind officially went online
after I bought my domain a few months later.
The name? A bit obvious, really. I'm not exactly creative. Anyway:
whirl·wind (hwûrlwnd, wûrl-) n.There's the obvious connection to wind there. And since Talim stars in a fighting game, "destructive force" relates perfectly. And "a tumultous, confused rush" sort of fits my personal fighting style! I never said I was any good at the game.
1. A rapidly rotating, generally vertical column of air, such as a tornado, dust devil, or waterspout.
2. A tumultuous, confused rush.
3. A destructive force or thing.
This site has gone through a lot of changes since it was first uploaded. I nixed a lot of the gameplay content since I realized
I really didn't care to have a site simply revolve around that, plus
much of it got stolen. Many sections have been deleted or condensed over the years.
Soul Calibur character shrines have dropped in popularity and I don't feel as if
I have as wide an audience as before, so this site has become a bit more personal and less informative.
Though there's still the attraction of a huge art gallery!
But I'm happy with it now.
Whirlwind is going to be "static" from now on, aside from possible updates on new SC games.
I'd like to leave it as a small and concise tribute :).
Layout
This would be version seven of Whirlwind. It again proves that I abuse gradients way too much! Anyway, it features
a screencap of Talim from the Soul Calibur II opening movie.
Textures came from a bunch of now-dead sites :(. Lyrics are, as usual, from
The Shins' "Girl on the Wing."
credits
First off, thanks to IGN and Gamespot for images and
general information on the games, and thanks to various FAQs at gamefaqs for some
random tidbits and help when I needed to double check the info that I gathered.
Most of the artwork came from Creative Uncut and
some now-dead Soul Calibur sites. The Arcadia poster by Hyung-tae Kim came from the gallery at
hyung-taekim.org. Bits of info were gathered from my geography textbook
and Wikipedia. Some info on tonfa came from here.
The Tagalog translations came from here.
All other information was complied from the games themselves or the official player's guides.
